“Timber-Tech” is a two bedroom home that makes a small footprint on the land. Designed and built by Loken Builders, this Missoula home features engineered wood, recovered wood fiber, and salvaged lumber in an affordable home. At less than 1000 square feet, the home was built on an urban infill lot, thus making best use of existing infrastructure, while decreasing the suburban sprawl that is swallowing open space on the edges of Missoula.
Timber-Tech focuses on affordable resource efficiency. From the hardwood floor recovered from an old high school gymnasium to the carpet made from recycled plastic bottles, Timber-Tech embodied numerous resource and energy efficient materials that lead to an environmentally sensitive, healthy, affordable single family home.
For these new innovations, Timber-Tech and Loken Builders have received national attention. Featured in Utah Builder, SolPlan Review, Building Materials Retailer and Popular Science, Timber-Tech is a "normal looking" house that fits into the neighborhoods of the past, while employing the environmental sensitivities and efficiencies of the future. Timber-Tech was awarded an honorable mention in the national Energy Value Housing Award competition
